Rev. Esther Wakeman, Ph.D. came to Thailand in 1979, after receiving her bachelor’s degree in psychology. She first worked as an English teacher, then met and married an American Presbyterian missionary who was widowed and had three children. She completed an M.Div. degree and a Ph.D. in clinical psychology at Fuller Graduate School of Psychology, in California, USA. She was ordained in the Presbyterian Church (USA) and also was licensed as a clinical psychologist in California. She has worked since 2000 at Payap University in the Chaplain’s office. She held different roles including Chaplain, Assistant to the President, and Vice-President. She also teaches Pastoral Care and Counseling in the McGilvary College of Divinity of Payap University. She loves her husband, their children, and delightful grandchildren, and is discovering the joy of gardening.
